Mailto Links to Open Vmail in Web Browser
Mailto links on websites are designed to open an email client to send a message (usually requesting/providing information pertaining to that site). With the use of Vmail, via a web browser, most systems will not be capable of opening a compose window - after clicking on a mailto link.
The Zimbra Toaster (Windows) utility will allow you to click a mailto link, which will direct you to authenticate to your Vmail account and then automatically open a compose window in your web browser with the email address embedded.
Zimbra Toaster also provides a notification function, in addition the mailto capability. It does require some configuration and authentication information (and you can adjust settings after you have installed it).
- Download Zimbra Toaster
After downloading with Firefox, you may or may not have a Downloads dialog box where you can double-click the file to run it. If you do not see the Downloads dialog, you can go to the Tools menu and click Downloads to open it - then double-click the Toaster utility to install it. - Answer the prompts to install it. To open it, go to Start-Programs-Zimbra-Zimbra Toaster
- Configure it as illustrated below
- Enter Server name as: vmail.svsu.edu
- Check "Use Secure Connection"
- Enter your SVSU username and password
- On Click Action - select: Open Item in AJAX Client
- Click button: Register Mailto Handler
- Click OK
-
After you've installed/configured it, test it out by clicking here . If successful, you should be asked to authenticate to Vmail and end up with a compose window with "not-a-valid-address @ svsu.edu" in the To: field of the message.
| Note: if you encounter an error upon clicking on the Register Mailto Handler button, showing "An unhandled exception..." message - it means that your system does not have any email client specified as default. To fix this error, do the following: * Click Start-Run and type: inetcpl.cpl |
