Steps to accessing your Vmail account
- Establish a connection to the Internet. If connecting from off-campus, you have to establish an internet connection through an ISP (Internet Service Provider). SVSU microcomputer labs and student housing units have high-speed direct connections to the Internet.
- Launch your favorite Web Browser. (Netscape or Internet Explorer)
- Enter the following URL, or click on this link: vmail.svsu.edu
- Login to your Vmail account.
Logout to end your session.
FAQ's
1)Is there a way to configure the interface so that there is a "BCC:" line available?
- Yes, when you are composing a new email, click on the options icon. It will release a drop down box, click on Show BCC field.
2) Is there a way to setup a distribution list (group) in the address book?
- Yes, the Group Contacts feature allows you to create contact lists that contains multiple mailing addresses. When you select a group contact name, everyone whose address is included in the group list is automatically added to the address field of the message
On the toolbar, click New and select Contact Group. The New Contact Group form is displayed. If you want to create the group list in an address book other than Contacts, before you start, select the address book and then click New>Contact Group.
Click Save on the toolbar when you have completed inserting the email addresses you want to include. The new group contact is added to your address book.
3) Can I change the default templete (view)?
- Each time you log in you can choose which web client version you want to use, either default Advanced, or Standard.
Default is the client type configured in the Preferences, General tab. It can be either Advanced or Standard.
Advanced Web Client offers the full set of Ajax based web collaboration features. The advanced web client works with the newer browsers and the faster internet connections.
Standard Web Client is a good option when internet connections are slow or users prefer HTML-based messaging for navigating within their mailbox.
4) Can I import address books?
- Yes, you can import contact list and address books that are saved in a comma-separated (.csv) text file format.
5) Can I save email drafts?
- Yes, you can save your messages as a draft to be completed and sent at a later time. Messages are saved in your Draft Folder until you send them or delete them from the folder.
6) What are tags and how I create them?
- Tags are your personal classification system for mail messages, contacts, tasks, and appointments. To create a Tag -- From the toolbar, click the down arrow next to New and choose Tag. Select Tag from the toolbar -- Right click an item in a list view and choose Tag Conversation. Right Click on Tags or a tag in the Overview pane and choose New Tag.

Yes. Folders -- after you have created a folder. Highlight and right click. A drop down menu will release. Click on Share Folder.

Calender -- You can share you calender with Vmail users, external guests, and the public.

10) What is the difference between message view and conversation view?
- The traditional view displays a list of messages with the most recent message displayed first. Unread messages are bold.
Conversation view displays your messages grouped by subject. The number of messages in the conversation is displayed in parentheses after the subject. Conversations containing unread message are shown in bold.

Click the Preferences tab.

Open the Mail Filters tab and click New Filter.

The Add Filter dialog displays.

In Filter Name, type the name for the rule.

In the If the following conditions are met area, choose a grouping preference.

Check the Active box to turn on the filter rule.
The filter will be applied automatically to all new incoming mail messages as they arrive.
You can also create a new filter from an email message. Right-click on the message, choose New Filter. The Edit Filter dialog displays with From, To, and Subject set with this information from the email message. If the filter conditions are correct, give the filter a name and click OK.
12) I'm not receiving any messages in my account anymore?

Check your rules to see if you have a rule (filter) that deletes all messages, or check to see if you have your account forwarded to another email address. If that is not the case, check your mailbox size. If you are over your limit you will not be able to send or receive email.
