Fall Password Change Cycle

.
This fall SVSU begins a major transition to a new password management process that will bring the University in line with industry standards.

Starting October 12th and throughout the next 8 weeks, random segments of the Campus Community will be asked to change their password.

During this first phase, as in the past, you will be asked for your date of birth, Colleague ID number, and the last 4 digits of your social security number. In addition, you will be asked for your answers to three "challenge questions":
1) Your mother’s maiden name
2) Your place of birth
3) A question you write

You can (must) change your password at:
Change Your Password.

In addition, you can not reuse a password for 365 days.

Why are we Changing Passwords??
The routine changing of passwords is in response to pressures from security focused legislation (GLBA, Sarbanes-Oxley, PCI, etc.) and auditors. As a result, universities are moving toward requiring their passwords to change on a regular basis, multiple times a year (just like banks, etc.). SVSU is no exception as we have moved to changing passwords 3 times per year.
