Post Baccalaureate Teacher Certification

Mastering the challenge of education to change and improve lives

Those who hold at least a bachelor’s degree and want to teach in an elementary, middle or high school have two options to become a certified teacher in Michigan.  Both options involve the successful completion of State of Michigan approved major/minor requirements.

Traditional Certification program - allows students to complete the requirements for teaching theory courses in three semesters (secondary education) or four semesters (elementary education), which includes a supervised student teaching assignment.  The Traditional Certification program is offered on SVSU’s main campus and at the Regional Education Center - Port Huron.

The Accelerated Certification Education (ACE) program - provides students with an intensive year-long, full-time field experience which includes student and substitute teaching.  The ACE Program is available at SVSU’s main campus and at the Regional Education Centers – Macomb.
