Welcome Dinner and Orientation Program - Winter Semester 2012

We are excited that you have taken the next step towards mastering your future! Listed below is an outline of the orientation program.

Dinner with the Graduate Coordinator/Academic Representative and other recent admits to the academic program
Topics covered include identifying:
• Key members within the academic program and outlining their roles and responsibilities
• Curriculum requirements
• Pre-requisites/course sequence
• Capstone/research requirements
• Advising
• Academic policies, such as grading scale, incomplete/withdrawals, grade grievance, transfer credit, course overloads, independent studies, etc.

Cardinal Direct SVSU's web-based access to student academic/financial information and services.
• Cardinal Direct log-in, user names and email instructions
• The "how to guide" for locating courses, registering on-line, accessing book requirements, viewing grades, GPA, accessing student transcripts and other important course information
• Important semester dates and information

Financial Aid and SVSU's Graduate Payment Plan
• Student loan options, scholarships and SVSU's Graduate Payment Plan will be introduced along with application process and deadlines
• Answers to common financial aid questions will be offered

V-Space and the Student Technology Center
• The basics about V-Space - SVSU's electronic learning management (ELMS) and on-line portfolio system
• Services available through the Student Technology Center

Library Services for Graduate Students
• What every graduate student needs to know about accessing library resources for research and assistance both on and off campus
• Services available through the Regional Education Resource Center
• How to access other off campus resources and services

The Writing Center
• Services specifically designed for graduate students through the Writing Center

Career Services
• Services available through the Career Services
