Crystal M. Lange College of Health & Human Services

"The Master of Science Health Leadership program was developed for those preparing for leadership positions in health or human services, which has replaced industry as the major employer in much of the region. Internal and external focus groups were used in development of this multi-disciplinary program.

The internal focus group, composed of faculty members from a variety of disciplines, concentrated on program design. They identified categories of content essential to understanding health and human services systems from community, organizational, governmental and regulatory perspectives. Course selection and design criteria included assurance of academic rigor as well as a balance of theoretical and practical application.

The external focus group, composed of leaders from health and human services organizations in the region, were enthusiastic in their evaluation of the proposed program. They were pleased with the focus on community and organizational development, the opportunity for students to individualize their program based on selection of electives, and the categories of electives which assure preparation in major aspects of organizational leadership. They recognized the benefit of a program that exposed students to the expertise of faculty from multiple disciplines."
