Benefits of a Master of Education Degree

The growing demand, both nationally and in Michigan, for school leaders who can have a positive impact on student learning makes the Master of Education degree a valuable credential.

The 2005 Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov) data projects that job openings in educational administration will grow as fast as the average for all occupations through 2014. Job opportunities for many positions should be excellent because a large proportion of education administrators are expected to retire over the next 10 years. Expansion in the for-profit and private sectors of education will also contribute to this growth. As education and training take on greater importance in everyone’s lives, the need for people to administer education programs will grow.

The Michigan Labor & Economic Growth Labor Market Information (www.milmi.org) projects a 10% increase in administrative jobs in Michigan through 2014.

The Occupational Information Network (http://online.onetcenter.org) reports that nationally the median wages for school administrators in 2005 was $74,400, with projected growth through 2014 at 10-20%. In Michigan, the median wages in 2005 was $85,500, with a projected job growth of 10%.
