"SVSU's graduate degree provided me with an excellent foundation on which to advance my career in law enforcement and public service. It also provided me with an opportunity to serve as an adjunct faculty member at SVSU and Delta College. As an adjunct faculty member, I enjoy sharing my 28 years of law enforcement experience with CJ students and am hopeful that it will benefit them as they enter the criminal justice profession."
Anna A. Filipova, Ph.D."Completing the Master of Arts degree at Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) has put me in the top 2 percent of my peers. This program provides graduate students with a well-developed theoretical foundation of knowledge in many aspects of leadership and administration theory as well as specifics such as conflict management, human resources management, communication, professional ethics, budgeting, and statistics. I met distinguished and committed professors who nurtured my intellectual curiosity and inspired me to pursue higher goals in life. The solid academic preparation I received in this program helped me excel in my doctoral studies at Western Michigan University. I consider my graduate experience at SVSU to be part of a continued love of learning and success in my research and teaching career."

"After graduation from Saginaw Valley State University in December of 2000, I continued to work in social work with Wolverine Human Services as a Clinical Supervisor in juvenile delinquent behavior treatment. On September 11, 2001 our world changed and I felt the need to do more with my experiences from the U.S. Army of more than 21 years in Combat Arms. In June of 2002, I began working for the U.S. Department of Transportation in training security officers at our nation’s 428 airports for the newly formed Transportation Security Administration. After completing the stand up of the TSA, I was realigned to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and TSA and managed security operations at MBS International airport until October 2006 and currently manage security operations at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids Michigan.
My experiences and involvement in the SVSU Graduate Program were instrumental in my transition from the military to the civilian culture. The ability to openly talk with Professors and the open dialogue in the classroom encouraged critical thinking skills that help open the mind to a much larger world than the one we live in. Overall, the graduate program opened many doors in allowing me to seek greater roles in Public Service and with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security."
Kila Cain, MA"Completing the MAS program at Saginaw Valley State University, has not only added to my credentials, but it has proved to be the stepping stone to become a lifelong learner. It is through this formal education, that I have been able to enhance my career and help other people benefit from what I've learned. I appreciate the consistency, diversity, and flexibility that SVSU provided for me and my educational efforts. Although the program challenged me at every level, I feel that because of the dedication of my professors, I was able to overcome every obstacle I encountered and I encourage anyone who is seeking higher learning to remember that your education is the one thing no one can ever take away from you."
Monika Sciba, MA"The MAS program at SVSU enhanced my skills academically, professionally and personally. All my professors were experts in their fields and were helpful and approachable. They consistently challenged me to grow academically which helped me professionally as well. My classmates also added to my knowledge base. It has been two years since I graduated, and I use what I learned in the MAS program on a daily basis."
Joseph (Joe) Jaksa, MA "The experience earning my Master of Arts Degree at Saginaw Valley State University was simply fantastic. I was intellectually challenged by the faculty and developed new skills that immediately assisted me in my personal endeavors. The academically intimate classroom environment and the instruction by the staff of dedicated professionals made the education a positive learning experience.
The Master’s Degree earned at Saginaw Valley State University continues to pay huge dividends to me professionally and academically. Shortly upon graduation from SVSU, I received a promotion to Vice President of Teachout Security Services and then earned admittance into a Ph.D. program studying educational leadership.
Many friends and colleagues ask if earning my Master’s Degree from SVSU was worth the time and effort – I reply that the benefits for me are easy to see!"
Melissa Maillette, MA"Since graduating with my degree, I have been promoted to a management position within my organization. I sincerely value my degree and experience in the graduate program. I feel the program has prepared me for all aspects of management and provided the necessary resources, knowledge, and skills to become an effective manager. I refer this program to others who are looking for a quality graduate program in administration. I think it's great that we have such a beneficial program locally in the Tri-City area."
Jean Ho Ramet, MA"The small class size and the seminar approach to learning were most valuable because of the individualized attention given to each student. In particular, the pre-writing and discussion sessions successfully enhanced my understanding and have given me a greater insight into the community and the professional operation of governmental and criminal justice systems.
The most rewarding experience for me was completing my Master thesis in "The Democratization of China" under the supervision of Dr. David Weaver. He helped me to see the world picture of what kind of democracy China will achieve in the future. I am proud of my achievement at Saginaw Valley State University, and I quickly landed an adjunct position in the Social Science Division teaching "Introduction to American Government," "Comparative Government, " and "State and Local Government" at Delta College, and a full-time position as an academic advisor in the Counseling/Advising and Career Services with the same employer."
