What
Is A Flute Ensemble?
It is
simply a
group of
flutists
who enjoy playing together. A flute ensemble might consist of only
three
players or possibly as many as eight, and maybe more for a flute
choir. Your flute ensemble will probably be made up of C flutes, but
there are
many more flutes in the flute family. These are the piccolo, Eb, alto,
tenor and bass flutes. All of these flutes give great variety to
the flute sound and increase the repertoire. Our ensemble,
Flûtée,
has all of these instruments.
Why Have A Flute Ensemble?
First, we
all
know how
popular the
flute is. Sometimes there are just too many in your band. Also, an
ensemble
will give you the opportunity to become proficient in counting,
intonation,
creativity, and will help you gain self confidence for solo playing.
And,
of course, playing together is always a lot of fun.
Do We Need A Conductor?
This is a
very
important
question
because you need to ask your band director or your music teacher where
to find music suitable for your level of playing. An experienced person
will also offer advice on playing in tune, coming in correctly,
and
helping with technical problems. And you also gain the opportunity of
following
the conductor. Once you are started, you can also rehearse on your own.
What Will It Cost?
Someone
will have
to
purchase music,
especially if there is none available at your school. You should also
consider
paying your conductor for his or her help and time. But remember,
you possibly will be paid when you play in public.
So Where Can You Perform?
Churches, retirement
homes, malls,
restaurants, schools, libraries and museums are good places to perform.
There are many possibilities.
