Flûtée
(2006):
Mary Anderson, Pam
Rowe, Tess Miller, and Kim J. Teal
Flûtée,
a professional flute quartet in mid-Michigan,
is
comprised
of Mary Anderson, Kim J. Teal, and Tess Miller (with the 4th postion
currently vacant), who
perform in such professional ensembles as the Saginaw Bay, Midland, and
Traverse Symphony Orchestras, and the Saginaw Eddy Concert Band. This
award-winning
ensemble was founded in 1987 and has performed throughout the United
states.
They were a featured professional ensemble at the
Michigan
Flute Festival (1993 and 1994) and won the National Flute Association's
1994 Chamber Music Competition, becoming the
first Michigan ensemble and flute quartet to win. They were featured
performers
at NFA Conventions in Kansas City (1994), Chicago (1997), and Columbus,
OH (2000), where they gave the world premiere of Children of the
Wind. Flûtée has also been named to the
Saginaw
News' annual
list of top ten artistic events in mid- Michigan several times. They
were also a Professional Artists in Residence Ensemble at Saginaw
Valley State University from 1991 - 2007.
The quartet is known
for
its varied styles of musical performance, playing everything from
classical
to jazz on various combinations of piccolo, Eb soprano, C concert, Bb
tenor,
alto, and bass flutes, and has been featured on WCMU-FM (CMU) and
WUCX-FM (Delta
College) radio and TV stations. Flûtée is active in
presenting master classes in flute ensemble performance at schools
throughout Michigan and also presents children's
programs such as The Snow Queen,
A Carnival of Animals,
and Flûtée:
In the News. Flûtée is
also recognized for its continuing
efforts to expand the literature for flute quartet through its
commissioning
of new music and arrangements of existing music that
utilize all the members of the flute family.

Mary
Anderson
was second
flutist
with the Saginaw Bay Symphony
Orchestra until retiring in 2007. She also is flutist with the Traverse 
Quartet, and is principal
flutist
and soloist with the Bay Concert Band. She is a founding member
of
Flûtée, founder and director of the Delta Flute Choir, and
is on the faculty of Saginaw Valley State University. Mary is a
former
principal flutist and soloist with the Delta Festival Orchestra and the
Saginaw Eddy Concert Band and has played with the Louisville Orchestra.
She has performed
at National Flute Association conventions with the Professional Flute
Choir
six times, conducted flute choir reading sessions three
times, and has appeared in concert with Flûtée five times
(1994, 1997 and
2000). She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University
of
Louisville and a Master of Music degree from the University of
Michigan,
where she studied with Nelson Hauenstein and Albert Tipton. In
addition, she has done post graduate study at the University of
Colorado,
studying with Paul Hockstad.

Kim
J. Teal
has been solo
piccoloist/flutist with the Saginaw
Bay Symphony Orchestra since 1975 and was formerly principal
flutist
and
soloist with the Delta Festival Orchestra and Saginaw Eddy Concert
Band.
She performs with the Belle Valley Community Band, has been a
substitute
flutist
with the
Midland and Flint Symphonies, has performed with
the Ann Arbor
Chamber Orchestra and the Lansing Symphony 
Orchestra, and free-lances throughout
Michigan. Kim is the business manager and music arranger/composer for
Flûtée
and is a founding member of the quartet, with whom she has performed
five
times at
National Flute Association conventions
(in 1994, 1997, and 2000). She owns
and operates The
Teal
Flute Studio and is the founder
and music director of Birds of a Feather Flute Ensemble. She also
performs with childrens' storyteller Theresa Pickering as Toot 'n'
Tell. She holds a
Bachelor
of Music (Performance) degree from Central Michigan University, a
Master
of Music (Performance) degree from the University of Michigan, and has
done
graduate study at Indiana University in musicology. Her teachers
include
John Wheeler, Paula Robison (master class), James Pellerite (seminar),
Harry
Houdeshel, and Keith Bryan. Kim also does professional music engraving
in addition to flute performance,
teaching, and music arranging/composing.

Tess Miller
teaches flute lessons,
flute ensemble, woodwind
methods, and music appreciation at Albion College. She  holds
D.M.A., M.M., and B.M. degrees in Music
Performance from Michigan State University. Her teachers include
Richard Sherman, Ann Sherman, Shaul Ben-Meir, Linda Chesis, Alexander
Murray, Susan Hoeppner, André Papillon, and Lise Daoust. Tess
has also taken Masterclasses with Leone Buyse, Jim Walker, Carol
Wincenc, Bonita Boyd, Jeffrey Zook, Timothy Hutchins, and Sebastian
Bell.. Tess is second flutist with the Traverse
Symphony and is a substitute flutist with the Midland,
Lansing, Jackson, and Battle Creek Symphonies. She also performs with
the Everon Duo (flute and marimba/percussion) and the London Trio (2
flutes and
cello) chamber ensembles. Tess is a judge for MSBOA Solo and Ensemble
Festivals
and teaches flute for Mid-Michigan Winds in Haslett and the Grand Ledge
Public Schools. In 2006, she was designated "Alternate" for the
National Flute Association's Young Artist Competion.

The 4th
Position in Flûtée is currently vacant.
We are currently looking for someone to fill this
position. This position requires a flutist who owns and can perform on
C flute, piccolo, and alto flute. On occasion, Flûtée also
performs on tin whistles, recorders, and fifes, so any ability to
perform on these or any other historic/ethnic flutes (or a willingness
to learn) is a plus. If you are a professional flutist living in

Christine Dodge
is Flûtée's
official
substitute/5th flutist. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Education
degree from Oakland University and has also
attended Central Michigan University. She is
a member of the Belle Valley Community Band, Birds
of a Feather Flute Ensemble, and
has been a member of the Oakland
University Flute Choir and the
Oakland University Concert
Band. Her
teachers include Ervin
Monroe and Joanna Cowan White. Christy is an experienced and versatile
performer and plays piccolo, Eb, C, tenor, alto, and bass flutes, as
well as soprano recorder and fife. She and her saxophonist husband,
Scott are the proud parents of five sons, the oldest of whom are
learning trumpet, piano, trombone, and
alto saxophone.
