What is the Michigan Competitive Scholarship?
The Michigan Competitive Scholarship is a renewable award based on merit and financial need.
How does one qualify?
To qualify, a student must:
- Be a resident of the state of Michigan.
- Attend a Michigan public or private institution at least half-time.
- Take the ACT before entering college (before December of the student’s senior year) and receive a qualifying test score (A composite of 23 and sum score of 90).
- Fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the state deadline date of March 1.
Is the Michigan Competitive renewable?
Yes, the Michigan Competitive Scholarship is renewable up to 10 semesters. To remain eligible a student must:
- Fill out a FAFSA form by state deadline date of March 1.
- Maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA.
- Show financial need.
Maximum award
Up to $1300 per academic year.

Important News!!!
Remember, priority is given for this scholarship to students who have completed their FAFSA by the State of Michigan deadline date of March 1, 2008 (for the 2008-2009 academic year).
If you are eligible for the Michigan Competitive Scholarship and wish to attend Saginaw Valley State University, you must list SVSU as your first school of choice on the FAFSA form. Failure to do so may jeopordize your Michigan Competitive Scholarship for the academic year!
