Professor Christopher Giroux is presenting “Kin in Octavia Butler's Kindred: What's in a Name?” at the Louisville Conference on Literature and Culture since 1900

Professor Geof Carter hosted a panel sponsored by the Division on Teaching Writing at MLA in Boston in January 2013 on the Phenomenology of Pinball. His MLArcade Session featured movies by 8 scholars that explored various cultural and theoretical intersections of pinball machines.

Professor Carter has published his work from the MLA conference in Seattle in January 2012:  "MoMLA: From Gallery to Webtext" in Kairos

Professor Carter's review of Gregory L. Ulmer's Avatar Emergency was published recently in Enculturation.

Lauren Boulton: Has been accepted into the MFA program at Bowling Green State University, where she will be focusing on Poetry

Justin Brouckaert: Awarded the James Dickey Fellowship, as a top fiction candidate for the MFA program at the University of South Carolina. He was also wait listed at Ohio State University’s MFA program. He will be deciding between those programs in the coming months.

Rebecca Schwartz: Won the 2013 Braun Writing Award in Arts and Behavior Sciences.

Monday, April 15 (in Chicago): Rosalie Riegle, a former member of the SVSU English department will be presenting "Crossing the Line & Doing Time for Peace."

Monday, March 25, 2013: Cardinal Sins Flash Fiction contest: Cardinal Sins is seeking submissions for our new Flash Fiction Contest! This contest is open to ANYONE - not just SVSU students/alumni. The winning submission will win $150 and publication in the Winter/13 issue of Cardinal Sins. Runners-up will also be chosen for publication. The theme for the contest is "Trespassing." You can choose to interpret this however you wish - however loosely or creatively you would like to.
