Great Lakes Bay Regional Youth Leadership Institute
Youth Leadership Mission
The SVSU Youth Leadership Institute will exist to provide an opportunity for high school leaders from diverse racial, cultural, and socioeconomic communities in the Great Lakes Bay Region and SVSU mentors to gain valuable leadership training and acquire new skills that will help them lead in any community improvement projects.
Objectives
- Provide opportunities for students to network with other student leaders and professionals.
- Partner with the SVSU Student Association and leaders from other student organizations.
- Provide learning experiences for students, to reflect on their own leadership style.
- Promote the importance of diversity, citizenship and stewardship.
- Discuss areas for personal leadership
The high school leaders are nominated by their school principals, teachers, and administrators. If you are a student at SVSU (graduate or undergraduate) and would like to serve as a GLBRYLI mentor, please contact the Office of Diversity Programs at (989)964-4068.
2011 Service Project
The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is a free gift given to children residing in communities all over the world. Imagination Library provides children, aged 0-5, with one free book per month. A community must make the program accessible to all preschool children in their area. The community pays for the books and mailing, promotes the program, registers the children, and enters the information into the database.
The United Way of Saginaw County has undertaken the task of bringing this project to Saginaw County. For the 2011 Community Service Project, the Great Lakes Bay Regional Youth Leadership Institute solicited registrations for the Imagination Library.
