Program Requirements

The SVSU Criminal Justice Department ’s goal is to provide a liberal arts education with an inter-disciplinary focus on crime and criminal justice. The program requirements provides students with an overview of policing, criminal courts, corrections, and criminal justice policy. In addition, the program offers instruction based upon the current criminal justice trends and policies. Such courses may include: juvenile justice, correctional policy and treatment, human relations, community corrections, and other contemporary issues.

Police Academy Credit

The SVSU Criminal Justice program has a cooperative agreement with the Delta College Police Academy that permits our students to earn 12 Academy credits toward the SVSU degree in their last semester at SVSU. For more information, please contact Joseph Jaksa at jjjaksa@svsu.edu or 989-964-2178.

Delta College has operated a Regional Training Academy since the late 1970s. The 17-week Training Program is approved by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES).
