  • Returning/Transfer student-athletes who have under a 2.50 cumulative GPA must attend study table until cumulative GPA reaches 2.50.
  • Freshman must attend study table for the entire first year unless after the first semester he/she achieves a 3.00.

HOUR REQUIREMENTS

  • Four hours per week if cumulative GPA falls below a 2.40.
  • Two hours per week if cumulative GPA falls between 2.40 and 2.49.
  • Transfer students will have a four hour requirement until they meet the above standards.
  • Any additional hour requirements may be assigned by the coach of each sport.

How to obtain weekly study table hours:

  • By attending study table during regularly scheduled study table hours.  
  • You will need to swipe your ID card upon entering Ryder 256-257 for your study table hours to be recorded.  
  • Attend study sessions at the Math Resource Center in SE 106.
Monday-Thursday  9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Sunday 6 p.m.-9 p.m.

 

The math resource center requires that everyone who comes through the door for assistance has a student ID card to swipe on his/her was in and out.  As a result a computer-generated report is forwarded to the athletic department every Friday morning with a list of all of the students who sought assistance from the Math Resource Center during the week.  You must register with Jennifer Rushton in Ryder 218 prior to using math resource center.

  • Attend study sessions at the Writing Lab in Zahnow Room 134.  Use you ID card to swipe so that your hours can be recorded.
  • Meet with a legitimate SVSU subject specific tutor who is employed through the advising office.  The names, e-mail addresses, and phone numbers of subject specific tutors can be found outside of the academic office.  
  • The tutor must sign the confirmation sheet and it must be returned to the study table mailbox by 11:00am Friday mornings to receive credit.  No late sheets will be accepted.
  • For those student-athletes who cannot attend any of the above for a total of at least four hours, arrangements can be made to accommodate those individuals with conflicts.  These arrangements must be made with the academic office on an individual basis and during the first week of study table.
  • Students may also have coach turn in hours accumulated while team is on the road.
  • The academic office must approve any other study sessions or tutoring sessions not aforementioned; otherwise no study table time will be recorded.  

COMPUTER POLICY

  • Computers can only be used for applications on Microsoft Office, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Access.
  • The use of V-space and e-mailing assignments to professors is permitted.
  • E-mail, instant messaging, games or other non-educational related purposes are prohibited.  Use of the internet for non-educational related purposes, as deemed by the study table monitor, may result in loss of computer privileges.
  • When the study table monitors believes very little is being accomplished on the computers, the study table monitor can ask you to save and quit what you are doing and return to the tables.
  • After thirty minutes, if there are others waiting to use the computer, those who have been on the longest will have to return to the table and allow others to utilize the computer.  
  • Use of laptops is permitted, however permission to connect to the internet must be granted prior to connection.

GENERAL RULES

  • No cell phone use during study table, they must be turned off.  If your cell phone rings you will be immediately dismissed from study table.
  • Food and drink are permitted, as long as you are courteous and clean up after yourself before your depart.
  • No food or drink will be allowed near computers.
  • You will not be admitted to study table if you do not have any study materials.
  • Talking or sharing study materials, etc. will not be permitted without the study table monitor=s consent.  
  • NO personal music devices allowed!
  • Attending study table for less than four hours a week will be a violation of athletic department policy and failure to comply with the rules and regulations of study table attendance and appropriate behavior may result in suspension from athletic participation, which includes both practice and competition.


Student athletes are encouraged to utilize resources that are readily available on campus through the Academic Advisement Center, Math Resource Center and Writing Center.  Student athletes may use time spent receiving tutorial help at the above academic support centers as counting toward their required study table time.
