CWC Strategic Plan

Mission Statement
The Saginaw Community Writing Center (SCWC) and Bay Community Writing Center (BCWC) develop individuals’ abilities to use writing as a tool for personal and professional growth. To achieve this goal, the SCWC and BCWC serve Saginaw and Bay Counties by providing free one-on-one tutorial sessions and writing workshops, led by trained tutors from the Saginaw Valley State University Writing Center, to any writer in these communities.

At our community writing centers, we value:

  • Each writer and the intrinsic worth of each writer’s ideas
  • A welcoming, non-judgmental, and inclusive environment for all writers
  • Learning from and contributing to our community through thoughtful collaboration with our writers and our community partners

Moreover, we value writing as:

  • A skill that everyone can learn, and everyone should have the opportunity to develop, regardless of background or experience
  • A form of discovery, a way to learn about oneself and the world, and as a form of empowerment, a way to achieve professional and personal goals
  • An opportunity to humanize ourselves and our community through understanding of one another as individuals, thereby improving our acceptance of diversity and difference

The SCWC and BCWC will be a supportive and dynamic place of growth for all writers in Saginaw and Bay Counties. To achieve this, we will provide quality feedback to our writers, create innovative workshops to help our writers develop their skills, and collaborate with members of these communities in outreach efforts to support the development of writing in the region.
