Departments & Academic Programs

The College of Science, Engineering & Technology is made up of seven departments offering a variety of Bachelor of Science majors and minors in their fields.

The College of SE&T also participates in interdisciplinary programs in Agricultural Science and Engineering Technology Management and hosts a graduate program in Computer Science & Information Systems.  Follow the links to visit each department or program's homepage and to learn more about the curriculum.

Departments

Biology

The Department of Biology offers four majors as well as a minor in Biology and certification in Biology for Teacher Certification at the secondary level.

  • Biology for Teacher Certification

Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry offers a major (including an American Chemical Society approved curriculum) and minor in Chemistry, as well as majors in Biochemistry, Business Chemistry, and Chemical Physics.  Additionally, the department offers a major, minor, and certification in Chemistry for Teacher Certification at the secondary level.

Computer Science & Information Systems (CSIS)

The Department of Computer Science & Information Systems (CSIS) offers two majors in Computer Science and Computer Information Systems and two minors in Cybersecurity and Computer Science & Information Systems. The department also offers a Master’s degree in Computer Science & Information Systems (MS.CSIS).

Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) offers a major and minor in Electrical Engineering.  The Electrical Engineering (EE) program at Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.

Mathematical Sciences

The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers majors and minors in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.  Additionally, the department offers a major, minor, and certification in Mathematics for Teacher Certification at the secondary level.

Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers majors and minors in Mechanical Engineering.  The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) program at Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.  Additionally, the department offers a major in Engineering Technology Management (ETM) and minors in Alternative Energy and Engineering and Technology.

Physics

The Department of Physics offers majors in Physics and Optical Physics as well as a minor in Physics.  Additionally, the department offers a major, minor, and certification in Physics for Teacher Certification at the secondary level.

Interdisciplinary Programs

Agriculture

The College of Science, Engineering & Technology participates in interdisciplinary programs in Agricultural Science.

Engineering Technology Management

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology Management.  This program is available to qualified students currently in an engineering program or who have already earned an Associate degree in engineering technology.

Masters of Computer Science & Information Systems (MSCSIS)

Contemporary business practices are data driven, supported by computer information systems of ever more extreme complexity. Contemporary engineering and manufacturing practices also require vast amounts of data supplied by computer systems that integrate with powerful and diverse electronic hardware. SVSU's Masters of Science in Computer Science and Information Systems program will help you soar, whether your goal is to automate manufacturing processes, secure an Internet-of-Things implementation, optimize information systems enterprises, or build the next killer app.
