About Us

Student Learning Goals

Teacher Candidate (TC) program goals/objectives are set by the state of Michigan. The Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTasc) Standards have been adopted by the State of Michigan and address these areas:

  1. Learner Development
  2. Learning Differences
  3. Learning Environments
  4. Content Knowledge
  5. Application of Content
  6. Assessment
  7. Planning for Instruction
  8. Instructional Strategies
  9. Professional Learning and Ethical Practice
  10. Leadership and Collaboration

Each of these standards has competencies relating to performance, essential knowledge and critical dispositions that are measured by key assessments throughout our program.  These standards are new for the 2013-2014 academic year so program faculty are still in the process of alignment, but are making great strides and have already collected data for evaluating our program.  The next step is to consider all of the standards and look for ‘gaps’ in the data.

The TEMS department has aligned its program with the newly-adopted conceptual model for the COE.  All course syllabi include this new infinity loop model to represent how the program strives towards dynamic and continuous learning.
