UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM
Undergraduate students can complete over half of their of their Bachelor’s degree requirements at St. Clair County Community College or any accredited 2- or 4-year school. All professional studies (methods of teaching) classes are held on the SC4 campus, all fieldwork and student teaching is done locally.
POST BACHELOR'S PROGRAM
Students who already possess a Bachelor’s Degree or higher may obtain Elementary or Secondary Teacher Certification through the SVSU Traditional Certification Programs on the SC4 campus. Most pre-requisites can be done locally or online, all professional studies (methods of teaching) classes are held on the SC4 campus and fieldwork/student teaching requirements are done locally. Unlike the Accelerated programs, Elementary Certification through the Regional Education Center-Port Huron takes two years, and Secondary Certification takes one and a half years.
Both undergraduate and certification students must apply and be accepted to both Saginaw Valley State University and the College of Education Teacher Education Proggram before enrolling in most classes.
Students are urged to be advised by an SVSU certification advisor on the SC4 campus before beginning the application process. Advising is done by appointment only. Those who have a Bachelor’s degree must attend a Teacher Certification Information Session at any campus before scheduling an appointment to have their transcripts reviewed. The office is open five days a week to meet the needs of current and prospective Teacher Education Program students in room 251 of the M TEC building on the St. Clair County Community College campus: Mondays – Thursdays, 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Fridays, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
