Each candidate for a degree must file a written application, accompanied by the $50 graduation fee, in the Registrar's Office. All documentation and official transcripts of transferred credits must be on file at SVSU at the time an application is submitted.
SVSU graduates students three times a year,
Fall applications are accepted beginning with the first Fall registration in April. The Fall application deadline is the initial Fall payment deadline.
Winter applications are accepted beginning with the first Winter registration in November. The Winter application deadline is the last registration day in December.
Summer applications are accepted beginning with the first Spring/Summer registration in March. The Summer application deadline is the end of the last registration period before Spring classes start. Consult the registration and semester calendars on Cardinal Direct for precise dates.
If a degree audit indicates that a candidate is not ready to graduate, the candidate is not eligible for commencement and the application is made inactive. Late applications or missing documentation may cause the candidate to be moved to a later graduation date.
A candidate's graduation audit is based on the degree program listed in our student records at the time the application is made. Candidates are encouraged to review their Student Profile on Cardinal Direct prior to applying for graduation to verify that their degree program is correct in our system. If the degree program is not listed correctly in the Student Profile, candidates completing their degree program at the Macomb or Oakland Regional Education Center may request a change of program through the Macomb Regional Education Center Office. Candidates completing their degree program at our Port Huron Regional Education Center should submit their change of program request through the Port Huron office.
