Secondary Level Endorsement

Requirements for Completion of Endorsement

  1. Completion of the following Certifiable Major/Minor and Professional Education requirements earned after the issuance of an elementary provisional certificate.
  2. Successful completion of appropriate subject area endorsement Michigan Tests for Teacher Certification. Registration information is available on MTTC's website.

Academic Major (30-36 credits)
Biology, Chemisty, Communication & Theatre, English, French, History, Industrial Technology, Math, Music, Physical Education, Physics, Social Studies, Spanish, Visual Arts Education

Academic Minor (20-27 credits)

Professional Education Requirements

Methods of Teaching in the Secondary Classroom - Complete 6 credits from the following:

a. General Secondary Methods - candidates take:

Methods of Teaching Reading in the Secondary Classroom - Complete 3 credits from the following:

Technology in the Classroom - Complete 3 credits from the following:

Adolescent Development - Complete 6 credits from the following:

a. Adolescent Development-candidates take one course from:

Note: For TE 508 content will vary. Candidate must take content related to their major/minor.

Teachers with an elementary level certificate will extend their elementary certification to grades 9-12 in their subject area endorsements.

Total number of SEMESTER HOURS required for each option offered: 23

A signature is required for any TE 300/400 level course. Contact the College of Education Graduate and Teacher Education Admissions Office.

Some of the methodology courses may be applied to an M.A.T. program. Contact your program advisor for an evaluation.

Upon completion of all coursework requirements and the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification taken in the content area major and minor, the student must complete the appropriate endorsement application and submit it with a photocopy of the M.T.T.C. results to the SVSU Certification Office for processing.
