Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.)
Middle Level Classroom Teaching

About Our Master's Program

The student at the middle level is an enigma. Part child yet ready to change to teenager, this is a time of great upheaval and transition. The Middle Level MAT program is designed to consider how this transition impacts instruction, curriculum, assessment, and expectations at this level. Come to Saginaw Valley State University and examine questions about middle-level education with us. What does the research say about adolescents and how they learn? How can I implement exciting learning activities that encourage inquiry and self-direction yet maintain order in my classroom? How can I connect my content area with others in a way that helps students to make the associations? How can I integrate reading and writing in my content-area classroom? What are the best ways to assess adolescent learners? Our middle level program, which is aligned with the NMSA standards, can help you examine these questions and more as you discover the best practices in the area of middle-level education.
