Admission to the University

Individuals who are seeking admission to a master's or Education Specialist graduate degree, special education approval, teaching certificate renewal, endorsement, or post-baccalaureate teacher certification program must apply and be accepted before they may register for courses at SVSU.

Interested candidates must review the Admission Requirements (see below) for the program that they are seeking admission to before completing their application for admission. The Admission Requirements outline the supporting materials that must be submitted with the application to be considered for admission. Instructions on where to submit the application packet is included. Please be aware that incomplete application packets will not be considered and will be returned to the applicant for resubmission.

International student applicants who are interested in obtaining post-baccalaureate teacher certification must meet with the College of Education Certification Officer before they apply for admission to SVSU. International student applicants who are seeking admission to a master's degree in education must complete the Application for Admission and the International Student Supplemental Application for Graduate Admissions.

Students seeking a first bachelor's or second degree in education must contact the SVSU Undergraduate Admissions Office (1st Floor, Wickes Hall) at 989-964-4200 for application materials.

Teacher Education Program Information

Admission to the SVSU College of Education Teacher Education Program requires a separate application process. Students seeking admission into the Teacher Education Program to pursue completion of program requirements to obtain their initial teaching certificate should review program information, program eligibility, and the admission requirements listed with the application materials.
