Track & Field and Cross Country: Assistant Coaches
![]() Jenny Bellsky | Jenny Bellsky returns for her third year at Saginaw Valley State as an assistant coach for both men's and women's cross country and track & field teams. Bellsky's main responsibilities include meet management and coaching the middle distance, long sprinter, and long hurdler athletes. During her first two years of coaching, she has had the opportunity to coach three All-Americans. Bellsky is an alum of SVSU where she competed from 2002-06 on SVSU's cross-country and track & field teams. She served as captain of both cross-country and track & field teams. She was also a member of the GLIAC All-Academic team. Bellsky graduated from Saginaw Valley State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics. Currently, she is continuing her education at SVSU to earn her Masters of Business Administration degree in accounting. Bellsky is a native of Frankenmuth, Michigan. |
![]() Ed Skrelunas 4th Year | Ed Skrelunas has joined the SVSU coaching staff for the current season after retiring as principal of Clio High School. Skrelunas has served as head coach for track & field and cross country at Bridgeport High School, Warren Lincoln High School, Freeland High School and Clio High School. From 1977-83 he served as a part-time assistant coach at Saginaw Valley State University. During this time he was involved in recruiting and coaching over 40 student-athletes who earned All-American honors in NAIA. The track and cross country teams gained national recognition during this time winning the NAIA National Indoor Track Championship in 1982 and 1983. Skrelunas earned a bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University and a master's degree from Michigan State University. Skrelunas resides in Saginaw. |
![]() Stephanie Burch 1st Year | Stefanie Burch competed for the University of Windsor Lancers for five years in the high jump. She was a part of the 2006 Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS) Championship team and won four Ontario University Athletics (OUA) team championships with the Lancers. She was an individual bronze medalist in both the OUA and CIS in the high jump in 2005. She also was a two-time Canadian Junior National medalist. Stefanie graduated with a degree in Human Kinetics-Sports Management from the University of Windsor and is now pursuing a Mater's Degree in Occupational Therapy at SVSU. |
![]() Kirk Richards 1st Year | Kirk Richards is starting his first season as Assistant Coach of the Track and Field Teams at Saginaw Valley State University. Richards began his tenure on Jan. 5, 2008. Richards' coaching responsibilities include the Pole Vault, short Sprints, short Hurdles and the Javelin. He also will be responsible for recruitment and overseeing the academic progress and eligibility of his delegated athletes in their chosen events for the Cardinals. Richards also will be heavily involved in meet management. Richards is ending a Michigan High School coaching career that lasted 18 years. During that time, he helped develop 14 Regional Track and Field and Cross Country Championship teams and 42 Conference Championships. Richards also has coached many Individual State Champions in the Pole Vault, Hurdles, Long Jump and Sprint Relays. During the summer months, Richards coached local junior athletes in the Multi Events. His athletes have enjoyed several top 10 finishes in both the USATF and AAU National Junior Olympics. In the summer of 2008, his junior women Heptathletes finished 5th and 6th respectively at the AAU Junior Olympics and broke the State of Michigan Junior record totals for the seven events. "To learn more about teaching and the sport of Track and Field under the guidance of Coach Wall is the opportunity of a lifetime," says Richards, a native of Goodrich Mich. and now residing in Lapeer. Richards earned his Associates degree in Liberal Arts from Mott Community College and his B.S. in English from Oakland University. He has four children; Ben and Charlie, student-athletes on the Track and Cross Country teams at SVSU and Joseph, 14, and Andrea, 13. |
