Health benefits of spirituality to be discussed in lecture
Dow visiting scholar Dr. Harold Koenig will be presenting "Spirituality in Patient Care" Thursday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall.
Koenig is the director and founder of the Center for the Study of Religion/Spirituality and Health at Duke University. His lecture provides medical evidence of the health benefits of religious faith and practices - the only low-tech, low-cost healing which is universally accessible. These benefits include longer life, better overall well-being, better recovery from surgery, better ability to cope with life-threatening diseases, and lowered depression and anxiety.
Free metal/hip-hop concert to be held Sunday in Cardinal Cage
There will be a free concert featuring metal band Besieged, hip-hop artist Darel Jr., and slam poet Bradley Hathaway Sunday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Cardinal Cage (doors open at 6:30).
SVSU student Matthew Kiley organized the show.
"I wanted to bring something fun and unique to campus that a lot of students can relate to and enjoy," Kiley says. "My goal is for students to not be turned off by the diversity of this show but to come and listen to each band and develop an appreciation for something that they might not normally listen to."
Kiley says students should consider attending the show because it is free and because "never before has SVSU presented such a diverse lineup of quality artists."
In addition, each person who attends the concert will automatically be entered into a drawing for a free iPod Nano.
"Hip-hop, poetry, heavy metal, and an iPod giveaway," Kiley says. "There's a little something for everyone to enjoy."
For more information on the concert, e-mail Kiley at mckiley@svsu.edu. Those interested can also visit the following Web sites to see what each artist has to offer: myspace.com/besieged, myspace.com/dareljunior, and myspace.com/bradleyhathaway.
