Columnist only sees one side of parking lot problem

I read Dion'Dre Watkins' article on parking in the Sept. 25 issue of the Vanguard and I'd like to weigh in on the subject. I have always believed that if you live on campus, you should not drive to class.

It's one thing if you have a medical condition that prevents foot travel for long distances. However, if you are too lazy to actually get up on time for class, that is your own fault. I lived on campus for several years and not once did I drive to class. Watkins states how annoying it is to find a good parking place before class. How annoying do you think it is to commute to school and have to park behind all of the on-campus students who didn't want to walk to class?

Students who live on campus should not be able to park in the commuter parking lots. I agree with the author that something needs to be done about the parking situation. However, that something needs to start with banning on-campus students from parking in non-designated parking by their dorms. Simple as that. If commuters cannot park in the residents parking, why should the residents be allowed to park in the rest of the lots?
