Richard Hull artist reception
The University Art Gallery will be accommodating the reception of artist Richard Hull Monday, Oct. 2 from 4-6 p.m.
Hull will hold a public lecture Wednesday, Oct. 4 from 1-2:30 p.m. in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall.
The Richard Hull: Recent Works exhibition has been on display since Aug. 28 in the Gallery.
Religion lecture
Historian Stephen Prothero will deliver a lecture, "American Jesus: Icon of a Nation," Monday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall.
Prothero is a Dow visiting scholar and author of, "American Jesus," an account of the different "images of Jesus" cherished by the American people: from crucified Lord to folk hero to celebrity.
Ramadan dinner
On Monday, Oct. 2, Pine Grove Community Council is holding a Ramadan Dinner in the Apple Slice of the Regional Education Center at 9:30 p.m. As Ramadan is the month of fasting for Muslims, ethnic food and knowledge of the holiday will be provided.
Africa symposium concludes
Art historian Robert Farris Thompson will present "Tango: The Art History of Love," based on his recent book of the same title.
He will speak Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall.
Thompson is a professor of art at Yale University. He is considered to be at the forefront of the study of African-American art.
Affirmative action event
The "Affirmative Action Ballot Proposal Symposium" will center on the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative to ban affirmative action programs for public employees, education, or contracting purposes.
The event takes place Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Alan W. Ott Auditorium.
Rush lecture on science
Deborah Huntley, associate vice president for Academic Affairs and professor of chemistry, will present "Disturbing the Equilibrium: The Interplay of Science and Society," which will examine the connection between scientific progress and its place in society.
The lecture takes place in Founders Hall Thursday, Oct. 5 at 4 p.m.
College Night
Students and parents will have the opportunity to speak with admission representatives from more than 40 colleges/universities at the 2006 Saginaw County College Night.
Representatives of the U.S. Armed Forces will also be present.
The program runs from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Additionally, two financial aid presentations will be held, beginning at 6:45 p.m and 7:25 p.m.
The event will take place in Curtiss Hall and Groening Commons Thursday, Oct. 5.
Hispanic cultural concert
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, guitarist Anna Maria will perform "A Musical Journey, Tracing the Cultural & Historical Development of the Roots of Flamenco" Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Malcolm Field Theatre for Performing Arts. Admission is free. For more information call the Student Life Center at 964-4170.
Saints, Sinners and Spatzle
There will be an art auction Friday Oct. 9 in the Arbury Fine Arts Center.
The silent art auction preview begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the auction bidding from 6-8 p.m.
There will be German food and entertainment from 6-9 p.m. The celebration will help fund future programming for the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum.
Cost is $50 per person ($25 tax deductible), and tickets may be purchased by calling the SVSU Foundation Office, (989) 964-4052, or are available at the door.
Residence hall Field Day
On Sunday, Oct. 8, URA is holding a Hall vs. Hall Field Day, where hall residents can compete in various activities against residents of different halls.
Field Day will take place in the Courtyard at 3 p.m. Talk to RA's for more information.
Pop tab charity drives
URA's hall councils are currently sponsoring monthly pop tab drives. The drives run from the first of the month to the last of the month, and every month is a new chance for a hall to win. Residents of winning halls can attend a pizza party at their hall council's meeting. The pop tabs are being collected for URA's state and regional organizations to help benefit the Ronald McDonald House.
