Northwood handles Ashland
The Eagles already have more losses than they did a year ago, as the Timberwolves went up early and used a strong fourth quarter to close out the win 33-19 on Saturday. The loss put Ashland at 1-3 on the season, a year after the Eagles went 8-2. Northwood sophomore Torris Childs ran 39 times for 226 yards and three scores, while senior quarterback Kyle Kolbe rushed 19 times for 83 yards. 4-0 Northwood comes to Wickes Stadium on Saturday for Homecoming.
Lakers drown MTU
Top-ranked Grand Valley State used a 21-point second quarter on Thursday night in Allendale to send the Huskies to 0-4 on the season, beating Michigan Tech 41-20. The two teams were separated by just six yards of offense, but the Lakers caused four turnovers, including an interception that was returned for a touchdown in the deciding second quarter. The win was Grand Valley's 17th in a row, the longest active streak in the NCAA. The Lakers are 74-5 in their last 79 games.
Hillsdale edges Ferris
The Chargers could not stop Bulldogs' quarterback C.J. Van Wieren, but it was a safety late in the second quarter that made the difference in their 29-27 win on Saturday. Van Wieren rushed 36 times for 180 yards and four touchdowns, but was forced to run out of the back of the end zone for a safety that made the difference. Hillsdale rallied from a 14-0 second-quarter deficit for the win, which dropped Ferris to 3-1 on the season.
Wayne State beats Findlay
Redshirt freshman running back Joique Bell continued his strong play, rushing 38 times for 177 yards and three scores in helping the Warriors to a 24-3 win at Findlay on Saturday. Wayne State, which improved to 3-0 in conference play with the victory, capitalized on several possessions that started in Findlay territory. The Warriors scored once in each quarter. Wayne State hosts Grand Valley at noon this Saturday, while Findlay, 0-3 in the GLIAC, travels to Indianapolis.
