Women score six in win
September 18, 2006 —
The SVSU's women's soccer team used four goals from sophomore forward Tammie Edmunds to help blank Olivet Nazarene 6-0 at home on Saturday
The Cardinals dominated the game for the entire 90 minutes, controlling possession in Olivet's half and quickly halting any counterattacks. Senior goalkeeper Stacy LaLond was forced to make only five saves, indicating how ineffective Olivet's attack was against a staunch Cardinals defense.
"We use different formations for different teams and for different stages of the game," said coach Drago Dumbovic. Dumbovic, who started coaching the women in 2003, utilized multiple formations to keep Olivet guessing and ultimately stumped as to how to keep the ball.
SVSU exhibited superb passing throughout the game, tearing Olivet apart at the wings and in the penalty box. Just six minutes in, Edmunds found the target on a pass from freshman forward Jackie Barrett. Less than five minutes later, Edmunds netted a solo goal.
The second half proved little different for Olivet, as two more goals from Edmunds and a shot from Kim Oberski that found the back of the net put the game away.
The Cards' win preceded a 2-1 loss at the University of Detroit Mercy on Sunday. Sophomore Stephanie Roy scored the lone Cardinals' goal off of a Edmunds pass.
The Cardinals, now 7-2, play at Mercyhurst and Gannon this weekend.
