Program Board recruiting this week
January 16, 2006 —
Students interested in joining Program Board have until Friday to apply when open recruitment for the winter semester ends.
Those interested can get an application on the Program Board Web site or pick one up at the Student Life Center. Applicants must be taking a minimum of six credits and have at least a 2.0 GPA. Program Board will inform applicants if they have been accepted and once the applicant attends a meeting, they become a member of Program Board with voting rights and access to Program Board's Blackboard site.
The SVSU Program Board is a student organization that provides students with both large and small campus events. Members utilize funds to plan and implement programs for the student body. Past events include movie nights, lectures and concerts featuring such artists as Ludacris, Sugar Ray, and Michelle Branch.
Program Board president Ashley Talley says that joining Program Board is a great way to improve one's credentials and meet others around campus.
"Program Board is a great choice for communications, marketing, business, or accounting majors to put on their resume," she says. "But it is also an awesome way for all majors to meet people, gain experience that the average student won't graduate with, and learn ideas and procedures that can easily be related to their field."
Talley also added that most college students do not have the opportunity to put their fingerprint on their campus atmosphere but that "Program Board members get to do that every day."
Open recruitment occurs four times a year at the beginning of each academic semester.
Program Board meets every Monday evening at 9 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room. Meetings are open to the public and all are welcome to attend and share their opinions or concerns.
