Nilsson art on display
October 10, 2005 —
The University Art Gallery is currently displaying the work of world-renowned artist, Gladys Nilsson, in a wide display of watercolors, collages and prints.
The gallery has 48 different pieces of the Chicago-native's work containing brilliant colors that uniquely depict distorted caricatures and give visitors a general overview of the work she has been carefully creating since the 1960s. The exhibit, "Gladys Nilsson: Neo/Nouveau/Retro: Watercolors, Paperhanging, and Other Various and Sundry Items," will be available for public viewing through October 29.
In addition, a public reception is being held to honor the influential artist on Oct. 24 from 4-6 pm in the University Art Gallery and will take place two days before she will deliver her lecture as part of the Dow Visiting Artist Lecture Series on Oct. 26.
The Marshal Fredericks Sculpture Museum will also have a new exhibition when, "Nature Transformed: Wood Art from the Bohlen Collection," goes on display Friday. It will offer a look at contemporary and fine art in the medium of wood and will be on display through the end of April. The museum is launching the new display in connection with its first annual fundraising event titled, "Saints, Sinners, and Salsa." The silent auction of Michigan artists will include dinner and dancing and will take place Friday evening from 5:30 to 9:30 pm.
