Tuesday’s after hours were all about school spirit during “Red and White Party Night.”

The party took place in the Student Activities Room from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. as a part of homecoming week’s festivities.

“We [designed] this night to get people excited about homecoming,” said communication sophomore Elizabeth Calloway, “and to let them make pride-wear.”

Throughout the night., students decorated free T-shirts, bandanas, ponchos and masks with paint and Red Pride decals. At another table, beans and red and blue cups were set up so students could create noisemakers with members of the football team for Saturday’s game.

Calloway says student participation during these events shows the football team it has support from students. This, she said, gets them excited to do their best at the game.

More students poured into the party and by 9 p.m., all the chairs were filled.

And so began Cardinal Feud. The competition, a rendition of the popular game show “Family Feud,” included about 10 teams of four to six students. Contestants tried to guess the most popular responses to surveys, whether it was naming a famous superhero movie, a Battle of the Valleys event or a Facebook application.

Teams that guessed the most popular survey answers were awarded the most points. The top three teams then went into a final round, where they competed for $100.

Homecoming intern Laura Barclay was impressed with the student participation at all the homecoming festivities.

“We try to create events that cater to everybody,” said Barclay, an education senior.

Red and White Party Night was funded through the cooperative efforts of both the Student and the Resident Housing associations.
