SA Appointments

Your student government just held tryouts, and fourteen new students will represent your interests.

The installations were part of the Student Association’s annual fall recruitment to bring new faces and fresh ideas to the table.

“This year’s appointment process was probably the most difficult we’ve ever had,” said Ryan Kanine, a graphic design and communication senior who serves as SA’s president. “We’ve never had this many applicants who were all very well qualified.”

Earlier, the association announced it planned to take up to 13 entrants. In the end, however, SA members appointed 14 from the 28 applicants.

The representatives are Danielle Burelle, an elementary education freshman; Marcus Cooper, a communication freshman; Travis Falkner, a biology sophomore; Joshua Fleming, a public administration freshman; Jackie Gibson, a nursing freshman; Chelsea Grifka, an occupational therapy junior; Hilary Hoeflin, a criminal justice freshman; Shivraj Mann, a master of business administration student; Megan Milbourne, an occupational therapy junior; Megan Potts, an undeclared freshman; Caitlin Powell, a communication junior; Olivia Steffke, a biology and preveterinary freshman; Zhuojun “Trix” Sun, a finance sophomore; and Bion Thompson, an athletic training sophomore. To apply, students each gave a twominute speech last Monday to describe the goals, skills and qualities they would contribute to the association. Applicants were required to have a grade point average of at least 2.25.

Representatives will serve on two committees, help staff SA’s office hours and attend the association’s fortnightly House meetings.

The newcomers join 11 representatives, five committee chairs and three student officers.
