Seeley wins SA presidency in convincing fashion
March 31, 2008 —
Angela Seeley was elected Student Association president last week after winning 325 votes out of 560 cast during a three-day voting period running from March 24 to March 27.
Her 169-vote margin of victory is larger than the amount of total votes cast for either Shane Williamson or Tadd Jawor, who received 156 and 79 votes, respectively.
Seeley, an occupational therapy senior, served SA during the fall and winter semester as the chair of a committee that regards health-related issues on campus.
Williamson, a political science junior, lost despite holding several leadership roles on campus, including University Residence Association president, Phi Kappa Tau president, and Program Board vice president, all positions that he still holds.
Jawor, a business management senior, is the treasurer of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
In addition to electing the new president, voting students elected (and in many cases, re-elected) 20 SA representatives for the fall 2008 and winter 2009.
Voters also passed an amendment to SA's charter, 409 votes to 81.
Before the passing of the amendment, SA's ombudsman, public information officer, and parlimentarian were elected by the student body during the presidential elections.
The amendment now allows SA to appoint those officers as it sees fit.
