Counterfeit $20 bill used in C-Store

On January 22, a counterfeit $20 bill was passed at the C-Store."This is the second one we had this school year," Police Chief Ron Trepkowski said. "We had one there earlier, like September/October, where somebody passed a $20 bill."

Normally, cashiers at the C-Store use a marker to check to make sure twenties are real.

"[It's] Our procedure to mark it," Matt Wilton, director of Dining Services said.

Errored on the side of customer service was how Wilton described the incident. It was reported that the line was long at the cash register and the cashier couldn't find a pen to quickly check the bill.

There is a standard procedure that the University Police follow when a counterfeit bill is discovered on campus.

"We always get a hold of the Secret Service, if nothing else they will get a copy of it and run the serial numbers, see if they coincide with some of the ones they have had locally," Trepkowski said.

There is no definite answer as to whether the bill found earlier this year and this one are connected.

"At this point we don't know. The serial numbers are different, but that doesn't really mean a whole lot," Trepkowski said. "They don't look the same."

This case is still under investigation.
