The Cardinals began their weekend looking to grab their first GLIAC victory of the season. They ended it empty handed.

The Cards fell short twice this weekend, dropping two games to GLIAC foes Grand Valley and Hillsdale.

Thursday, the team traveled take on the rival Lakers, looking for their first conference win of the season. However, the Lakers, boasting a four game win streak, rode their momentum to victory.

After leading for the majority of the first half, the Cardinals managed to go into halftime up by six, with the score 36-30.

However, it would only take Grand Valley three minutes in the second half to regain the lead, and not look back.

Despite a 22 point, five rebound performance by freshman forward Brittany Burkhardt, the Cards would fall to the Lakers 69-60.

Senior guards Brittany Burns and Kara Kinzer would both add 13 points while junior guard Tricia Everett followed up her record setting 15 assist game against Tiffin with 11.

On Saturday, the Cards headed to Hillsdale, and again found themselves with an early lead, after starting the game off on a 10-4 run, and again managed to hold a lead going into halftime with the score 27-21.

After three lead changes in the second half, a pair of free throws from senior forward LaTille Ross tied the game 53-53 with 1:47 left. However, a Hillsdale layup from senior forward Julie Slot with eight seconds to go sealed the victory for the Chargers.

Ross would finish with a game high 20 points. She is averaging a team best 16.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.

The two losses drop the Cardinals to 3-4 (GLIAC 0-3) on the season. Next, the Cards will host Wayne State on Saturday, with tip off scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in O'Neill Arena, before they head on a four game road swing, beginning with a trip to Springfield, Montana to take on Drury University.
