Textbook theft on the incline
As the end of the semester winds down, tensions and larcenies increase. There has been a recent surge in roommate disputes and textbook larcenies.
Sergeant Marc Strain suggested that the roommate disputes are potentially due to end of semester stress levels caused by exams.
Textbooks have been stolen from rooms, outside doors, and backpacks.
The reason for the stolen textbooks is suspected by SVSU Police to be for "buy backs."
"Anywhere there's a book left out, someone's going to take it," Strain said. "We strongly recommend students ID their textbooks somehow."
Strain offers suggestions including circling page numbers in the book that coordinate with your birthday, writing your name in it, or visiting the University Police to use black light markers to tag your books.
Printer stolen from Pioneer Hall
A printer was found missing from of one of the computer labs in Pioneer Hall on Nov. 30.
"The kid who closed the lab said everything was fine and then they came in the morning and the printer was gone," Strain said.
When the lab opened the next morning, a LaserJet printer was turned over on its side and another one was missing. There was no physical evidence of a break in. The case is still open.
Stalking complaint filed by SVSU student
In another police case a stalking complaint was filed at the end of November. The student said she had been receiving threatening phone calls from an unknown person who knew personal information about her.
The case is being investigated by Saginaw Township Police.
