Spikers lose to Hillsdale in first round of tournament, Stanton named GLIAC coach of the year
November 12, 2007 —
SVSU's volleyball team capped off the 2007 season with a competitive loss to Hillsdale on Wednesday 30-19, 30-24, 25-30, and 30-22.
The loss dropped the Cards to 20-12 on the season (9-9 in the GLIAC), but the record should be qualified: the 20 wins the team recorded (most of which came in an early streak that saw the Cards go 12-2) is good for second-most in team history.
And the loss to Hillsdale came in a tournament for which the team has qualified for only twice since its inception. Add to that the fact that coach Will Stanton was named GLIAC Coach of the Year last week, and the season's disappointing ending is more than mitigated.
Junior outside hitter Sarah Redoute led the team with 367 kills, while also posting 324 digs.
Junior libero Carmen Schacher posted 467 digs, good for fourth-highest in school history. She also led the team with 54 service aces.
