Hocquard finishes first; named GLIAC golfer of the week
Junior Kasey Hocquard finished first at the SVSU Intercollegiate held at the Bay City Country Club last weekend.
He won the event after carding a four-under par 140, including a final round 68, leading the Cardinals to a first-place finish at the tournament. Hocquard then shot a two-under par 142 at the Motor City Invitational the following weekend, helping SVSU to a second place finish at the event.
Women place in top five at Michigan Intercollegiate
SVSU's women's cross country team took home third and fourth place finishes in the 6k and 4k at the Michigan Intercollegiate tournament Friday afternoon.
Sophomore Maggie Stalker placed fourth in the 6k event to pace the Cardinals with a time of 23:49. Senior Becca Rudey and sophomore Erin Dush finished close behind with eighth and twelfth place finishes respectively. The Cardinals finished with a team score of 112 in the 6k event.
Men finish third at Michigan Intercollegiate
The SVSU men's cross country team finished third in the collegiate division at the Michigan Intercollegiate 4k Friday night. The Cardinals finished with 47 total points for the event.
Senior Nick Krus finished eighth overall in the event with a time of 12:19.3. Sophomores Steve Genther, Cortland Seaver, and Derek Stone, finished in the top 20 en route to propelling the Cards to a top three finish.
Eagles blast Cardinal tennis 8-1
The women's tennis team was able to muster only one win as they fell to Ashland 8-1 Saturday morning's GLIAC match at SVSU. The Cardinals fell to 2-4 overall, and 1-4 in the GLIAC with the loss.
Freshman Cortney Heileman brought the team their only point in three singles, winning her match 6-1, 6-1. Junior Danielle Coldren fought valiantly after losing her first set to take her match in two singles to a third set, but ultimately fell 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.
