During a hot and humid halftime of Saturday's Homecoming game, students made their way to the edge of the field to see who would be crowned this year's king and queen.
After all of the candidates had been announced, nursing administration junior Kyle McDaniel and occupational therapy senior Angela Seeley were announced as this year's king and queen during the halftime ceremony.
Seeley represented the co-ed fraternity Alpha Phi Omega, while McDaniel represented South East Community.
Waiting for the announcement was nerve-racking for McDaniel and Seeley, as all of their hard work and campaigning finally came to fruition.
"I was confident but nervous," McDaniel said.
Seeley, a former Homecoming queen at her high school in Shepard, expressed how happy she was just to be involved in the coronation.
"I was really excited for anybody to get it," said Seeley. "But, of course I was nervous."
Both McDaniel and Seeley are very involved in SVSU organizations and campus life.
McDaniel, a nursing junior, is a resident assistant, a member of the track and field team, a Peer Health Educator, and a member of One in Four. On top his other commitments, McDaniel works in the Health Services department on campus.
Seeley, an occupational therapy senior, is also very involved. She is a Health and Wellness Chair in the Student Association, an Alternative Breaks site leader, a member of Alpha
Phi Omega, and a representative of Student Occupational Therapy Association, or SOTA, among other activities.
After the chaos of pictures and friends rushing to congratulate them, McDaniel and Seeley were still very surprised that they had won.
"I was very surprised but I worked really hard campaigning and
I had all of my friends behind me," Seeley said.
McDaniel shared the same sentiment and described how fun the entire Homecoming week had been.
"It was a very good week altogether. The campus came together very well and it was a lot of fun."
