SA to vote on smoking stance

At tonight's SA House meeting, SA will discuss and vote on their stance on the smoking issue facing SVSU.

The meeting will begin at 10 p.m. in the Alumni Lounge. All House meetings are open to the public.

Plain White T's to perform

The Plain White T's will perform in concert at SVSU Tuesday, Oct. 16. The concert is presented by the SVSU Program Board. In addition to SVSU, the Plain White T's are playing at several other universities in October, including the University of Arizona, SUNY-Albany, Rutgers University, the University of Illinois and the University of Texas.

Tickets are now on sale through the SVSU Box Office, located in Groening Commons. SVSU students may purchase tickets in person for $18 by presenting their SVSU student ID. The cost for the general public is $25. Tickets are available online at svsu.edu/events or by phone at (989) 964-4261.The concert will be held in Ryder Center. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. The opening act will be performed by Ill Scarlett, a punk/ska band from Mississauga, Ontario. They are expected to take the stage at 9 p.m.

Manufacturing workshops

The SVSU Center for Manufacturing Improvement and the Michigan Works! Regional Skills Alliance will host a series of five workshops aimed at helping Michigan businesses become more successful at entering international markets and exporting their products overseas.The first session in the Global Business Academy will cover international marketing. Participants will learn how to develop an effective global marketing plan, identify and rank high-potential export markets, and evaluate and select the best market opportunities.The presenter will be James Foley, Director of the International Trade Center and NAFTA Opportunity Center at Bradley University. A frequent speaker, he was named International Trade Educator of the Year in 2006. Each participant will receive a copy of Foley's book, "The Global Entrepreneur," which discusses techniques to expand international trade for small to mid-sized companies.
