URA hosting regional conference
September 24, 2007 —
SVSU's campus will be flooded with residents from various campuses this Nov. as URA hosts the Great Lakes Affiliate of Colleges and Universities Residence Halls (GLACURH) Conference.
GLACURH includes campuses in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Ontario.
Last year's conference was held at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire with the theme of "Good Clean Fun." This year's theme is planned to be Strike a Pose, Leadership is Always in Style.
The conference will be full of various events including a roll call of all the schools, SVSU's own Dr. Robert Maurovich as a keynote speaker, make your own music video, inflatable games, and the traditional conference dance.
Any student living on campus is eligible to the event. SVSU is allowed to take up to seven residents.
Applications are due on Tuesday Sept. 25 and can be picked up in the URA office, located on the first floor of Living Center North, or by emailing Caitlin Murphy at crmurphy@svsu.edu.
Murphy, a sophomore and the national communications coordinator for URA, believes conferences like this one are a great experience and very helpful to any student who attends.
"Leadership qualities and standing up in front of people was very difficult for me because I'm usually a very shy," Murphy said.
"[Last year's conference] really helped me open my eyes and see 'hey, this really isn't that bad.' It's a good opportunity and helps you grow on so many levels."
