Top employers will make an appearance on SVSU's campus this month, taking part in an Employment and Networking Fair.

According to Mike Major, assistant director of Career Placement and Planning, this year's Employment and Networking Fair will host some of "the most successful organizations from the region and the nation." Some of these will include Apple Mountain, Flint City Police Department, Saginaw Spirit Hockey Team, and NBC 25.

Major said this year's fair will be different than last year as it will provide students with more than part-time jobs. Some of these employers will be looking at students as candidates for full-time, entry-level positions. "We have more employers looking to hire full-time, career starting positions with benefits than we have had in the past," Major said. "The level of employer has risen considerably, which I believe is due to the university being viewed as offering a higher level of educational excellence."

The employment opportunity is geared to connect students with employers looking to fill full-time and part-time jobs.

Additionally, some employers will be seeking students to fill co-op positions, as well as internships. Major sees all of these positions as a way for the students to begin networking and striving to meet their career goals.

"I would like to see the students who attend the fair connect with employers that will offer solid employment," Major said. "I also want to see our students impress these high-level employers that are making their first-ever appearance."

The fair will take place in the Ryder Center on April 19 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event is open to all SVSU students and alumni with professional dress and resumes required. Advance registration and a complete list of employers are available at svsu.edu/careers.

Career Planning and Placement is seeking volunteers to help on the day of the event.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to network with employers during the fair. Students interested should stop by Curtiss 111 or call (989) 964-4954 for more information.
