Greeks host 'keg party'
March 26, 2007 —
Sigma Pi's keg party drew a crowd last week, with over 70 people attending the event. The party was free to all students and included a root beer keg, root beer pong, and other activities. Students Steve Chuchvara and Grant Hamilton won tickets to the band Live during root beer pong.
The program served as an alcohol awareness event to inform students about the effects of alcohol. Jon DiBartolomeo, vice president of Sigma Pi, was important in planning the event.
"We wanted to have a fun social event while teaching people about drinking responsibly," he said.
The event was held in honor of Samantha Spady, a Colorado State University student, who lost her life to alcohol poisoning.
DiBartolomeo said that the philanthropic projects put on by the fraternity are tributes to her life. Root beer pong winner Chuchvara appreciated the event's theme.
"I thought the event was a great idea for alcohol awareness. We had a great time there supporting the cause," Chuchvara said.
The event was the preliminary program leading up to Sigma Pi's "Pi Games" that will take place in April.
"It is important to get the message out there to everyone, and encourage people to be conscientious when they drink," DiBartolomeo said. "Pi Games will be more of what you see tonight, only bigger," he added.
DiBartolomeo will help organize the annual event.
"Our main goal is to make a difference in people's lives, and increase awareness that accompanies college drinking."
