Valley Nights is an organization that aims at improving weekend activities at SVSU, and this weekend was no different.

Kicking off the festivities will be two showings of the movie Blood Diamond on Thursday in the Multi-Purpose Room at 4:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

They will also be sponsoring "Eat and Compete" Thursday night. The popular show Grey's Anatomy will be shown on the big screen, and students will play a trivia game during commercials. The first 60 students to attend will be able to participate and are eligible for prizes. A free iPod, DVD player, gift certificates and various other prizes will be given away. Food from Famous Dave's will be provided for everyone who attends the event, which starts at 9 p.m.

Valley Nights is collaborating with Student Association to fund the event, and SA member Eric Read was actively involved in planning Eat and Compete.

"The reason for this program is to get students more involved and interested in learning about current events," he said.

Valley Nights is also sponsoring a comedy night with the Chicago improvisational group Mission Improvable, who will be performing Friday night at 9 p.m. in the Rhea Miller Recital Hall. The event is free to all SVSU students.

To conclude the weekend's activites, a "Club Night" will take place Saturday at 10 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room, with a dance-off, free food, and prizes. Tau Kappa Epsilon and Alpha Sigma Alpha are co-sponsoring this event along with Valley Nights.

Valley Nights is the organization responsible for arranging weekend events for SVSU students. It collaborates with any student organization on campus, and distributes grants to groups with ideas for fun weekend activities.
