In a recent article titled, "Fear of hate crimes has gone too far", the author of the article used a couple of lines that some in the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transgender community found to be quite offensive. »
GETT HIT ON THE WAY OUT -
SVSU's firing of football coach Randy Awrey is a blotch the size of a meteor crater on the University's otherwise clean record of conduct. The violations that Awrey allegedly committed are minor infractions, worthy of a suspension and a reprimand, but hardly worthy of the wide-ranging punishment SVSU's inflicted on its football program. »

We are a group of SVSU nursing students. We were assigned to do a project working with the community where we had to explore the assets available to help residents intervene on an issue. Our community was the city of Saginaw and none of our group members reside there. Because of this fact, all of our knowledge and experience of the area came from the news, newspapers, and word of mouth. We viewed Saginaw as a scary place with lots of violence and gang activity. »

You have a paper due today, that you've known about all semester. You've done your best work on it, and you feel as though you deserve an A+, and you do. When you get to class, one of your classmates is standing in front of your teacher. Your classmate takes your paper and hands it to the teacher for you. The teacher immediately gives the classmate an A, and you get a C+. Your classmate got a better mark than you, just for passing on your hard work. »
Yes, it's that time of year again, whether you like it or not. You may have tried hiding, bargaining, begging, and even considered moving to Canada, but the horrible truth remains ... final exams are here. But don't panic quite yet. Okay, I can't really help you with the exam in 10 minutes - you really should have studied for that one. But maybe a few tricks of the trade can help your academically-strained brain survive this week. »
In an ironic twist of fate, Mark Zuckerberg would like some privacy. The 23-year-old founder of the social networking Web site Facebook recently lost a case in federal court after suing the magazine 02138 for some documents that didn't exactly portray him as a halo-clad Internet pioneer. It seems that Zuckerberg may have looted both the idea and the source code for Facebook while working with three other Harvard students before he dropped out of the college. That lawsuit, filed in 2004, claimed that while he was working with Harvard students on a social networking Web site called ConnectU, he literally stole the creative vision, source codes, and business plan and went off into the sunset to create Facebook. That move, illegal or not, made Zuckerberg a billionaire. »

Michael Westendorf should refrain from commenting on subjects that he knows little about. He calls those opposed to hate speech and intimidation "crybabies" and makes light of anti-transgender hate speech. Let me guess - he has never been the victim of a hate crime. Yet he chides members of his community about how they should respond to victimization. »

Mr. Westendorf, a hate crime is always prosecuted because the belief of the accused resulted in an act of violence. Yes, I agree that if an attacker is a member of the KKK, I can just allege that the attack was because I'm black, but to no avail. It is the onus of the prosecution to show that he or she attacked me because I'm black. »
