Rio Bravo Del Norte    Kristin R. García

twisting hair

          braiding black strands

recuerdos that have root in my mind

I glance out the window,

dust settles on the road

dirty as the braid now resting on my chest

and I breathe in

              the aroma of Ciudad Juarez

arroz con pollo on my stove

and the thought of hijos

chasing Osito

           little bear-dog

through the back yard and side yard

where my laundry line

droops low enough to catch my neck

Kristen R. García is a senior from Auburn. She will graduate in

Concentration.
