David Swenson

David Swenson joined the SVSU faculty as the H.H. Dow Endowed Chair of Chemistry in 1996. His teaching assignments include the introductory chemistry for non-majors, environmental chemistry and biochemistry.

Dr. Swenson's research interests lie primarily in biochemistry. His research includes evaluating the impact of genotype on metabolism in the folic acid pathway in control, Alzheimer's Disease and Down Syndrome. NMR and HPLC/MS are used for following the pathways A second project is underway to establish biomarkers based on 16S rRNA sequences that may be applied to characterization of eubacteria vs. archaebacteria on earth and perhaps extraterrestrial settings. A third project involves utilization of waste water from a local sugar plant (Monitor/Big Chief) for growth of prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii).
