Saginaw Valley State University's Office of Continuing Education hosts a series of Builders License Exam workshops. These workshops are held on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University and are designed to prepare you to pass the Michigan Residential Builders (contractors) License exam, which qualifies you to apply for your Michigan Builders License.
This license is required if you perform any of the following trades for hire: carpentry, excavation, masonry, roofing, house wrecking, tile and marble, siding, insulation, painting/decorating, basement waterproofing, concrete, gutters/downspouts, swimming pools, and storms/screens.
To be eligible for a license, you must be at least 18 years old and pass both the business law and practice/trade portions of the state examination. These workshops help prepare you to do just that.
(Also, there's legislation pending in the state legislature that may require contractors to receive continuing education credits. Watch this space for more information on that as it becomes available.)
