George M. Puia is the Dow Chemical Company Centennial Chair in Global Business at Saginaw Valley State University. His primary teaching and research areas are in the areas of global business. Prior to his appointment to the Dow Chair, Puia was a member of the graduate faculty at Indiana State University. He holds a Ph.D. in Strategic Management from the University of Kansas. Dr. Puia earned an M.S. in Management with an emphasis in organizational change at National-Lewis University and has completed work in mathematics and economics at Northwestern University. His undergraduate degree was a B.S. in Business Administration with a major in marketing. Previous to working at ISU, Dr. Puia served as a professor in the University of Tampa (UT) MBA program and as director of the award winning UT Small Business Institute.

Professor Puia is a noted case-writer. For three years, Dr. Puia served as the Editor of the Case Research Journal, the premiere journal for academically refereed case studies. Professor Puia's case studies have been published in the leading textbooks of publishers Irwin-McGraw Hill, Prentice-Hall, Addison-Wesley, John Wiley Press, and the American Hospital Association. He has been at the forefront of the effort to create electronic case databases for the delivery of timely case studies to professors and students. Professor Puia's case on the internationalization of the US firm Outback Steakhouse is one of the most widely utilized cases in the world, appearing in four of the leading strategic management textbooks.

In addition to his case research, Professor Puia's academic research focus has been on the effects of large-scale change on strategic competitiveness. His publications appear in Management International Review, the Case Research Journal, the Canadian Journal of Administrative Science, Career Development International, and proceedings of the Southern Management Association, Midwest Academy of Management, North American Case Research Association, Society for Case Research, and the American Hospital Association. Dr. Puia has also authored practitioner articles for several business periodicals and corporate newsletters. Professor Puia has been invited to present his work to the Academy of International Business, Strategic Management Society, Academy of Management, Southern Management Association, Society for Case Research, Organizational Behavior Teaching Society, Western Casewriters, Midwest Academy of Management and the North American Case Research Association. He is a frequent speaker at executive conferences and workshops. Currently, Prof. Puia chairs the e-commerce track for the Southwest Division of the Academy of International Business.
